Cambridge Who's Who Names Doris Roettger, Ph.D., Professional of the Year in Reading Education

Doris Roettger recognized for five decades of professional dedication.

WEST DES MOINES, IA, September 29, 2010 /Children and Youth PR News/ -- Doris Roettger, Ph.D., Director and Teacher at Your Reading Connection, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Reading Education. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.

With nearly five decades of professional experience in education, Doris Roettger is a recognized authority on reading instruction. She now lends her services to students with reading difficulties. She identifies areas of difficulty and then teaches students how to overcome these problems. She not only teaches students how to adapt reading techniques into their everyday practice, but encourages their interests in books, writing and drama.

Crediting her success to her strong work ethic, learned from her father, and the support of her husband, Dr. Roettger is backed by an impressive academic and professional resume. Prior to establishing Your Reading Connection, Doris practiced her trade teaching students with reading difficulties in elementary and middle schools. At Heartland Area Education Agency, the largest educational service agency in Iowa, she held workshops for classroom teachers. She also taught undergraduate and graduate classes at Drake University and at Iowa State University. She was a contributor to the "Scribner Reading Series" and she developed teaching guides for children's books in "Reading Beyond the Basal Plus," published by the Perfection Learning Company.

She holds a Ph.D. in educational psychology from The University of Iowa. She served on the Board of Directors for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. She also served as president and coordinator of the Iowa Reading Association, as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Reading Association, and as president of the International Reading Association. In 2007, she was awarded the Literacy award by the Reading' Associations' LEADER Special Interest Group. Moving forward, she will continue to teach children and adults with difficulties how to become successful readers.
