Barbara J. Quigley Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Elementary Education

Barbara J. Quigley has devoted 54 years to teaching first graders

    OUTLOOK, WA, October 07, 2010 /Children and Youth PR News/ -- Barbara J. Quigley, Teacher at Outlook Elementary School for Sunnyside School District No. 201, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in elementary education.

A 54-year veteran of the field of education, Barbara J. Quigley is distinguished by her unwavering enjoyment of molding young minds. She has devoted all but 10 years of her career to Outlook Elementary School, where she teaches first graders. Ms. Quigley's dedication has been recognized with numerous awards over the last five decades, including the 2007 Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year Award, a Christa McAuliffe Award for Outstanding Performance, a Golden Apple Award, an Everyday Hero Award from the Kiwanis Club, and two Educator of the Year Awards from the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce. She has also been nominated for inclusion into Who's Who Among American Teachers no fewer than 14 times. Ms. Quigley attributes her success and longevity to adeptness, a positive attitude, and the inspiration of her aunt Helen Michaelsen, an eminent professor who has a building named in her honor.

Ms. Quigley received her master's degree in early childhood development and literature in 1961 from Central Washington University, Ellensburg and her bachelor of arts in education in 1955 from Central Washington University. She is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and a former member of the American Association of University Women. Ms. Quigley gives generously to the American Cancer Society, Disabled American Veterans, United Service Organizations, Booster Club, United Good Neighbors, and the Kiwanis Club.
