Jeanette Voelker Holuk has 26 years of experience in School Psychology
SHELTON, WA, December 21, 2010 /Children and Youth PR News/ -- Jeanette Voelker Holuk, Senior School Psychologist in the Special Services Division of Shelton School District, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in School Psychology. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.
Jeanette Voelker Holuk has 26 years of experience in School Psychology, with the last 15 of these years spent at Shelton School District. She became involved in her profession after working in the environmental health division of a children's hospital. Her areas of expertise include school psychology, special education, response to intervention, crisis intervention, and counseling. She is responsible for assessing and educating students, and assisting teachers and parents in creating a safe, healthy and supportive environment for enrichment.
Besides performing evaluations, counseling and interacting with children, Mrs. Holuk is called on to perform threat assessments and is involved in a social skills training program for students with Asperger's syndrome. She is part of the RTI (Response to Intervention) Team, which identifies and supports all students, particularly those at risk, and as a model of early intervention. The teams RTI Model includes universal screenings, and targeted or in-depth screening of students who appear to have more significant needs, followed by implementing appropriate instructional modifications. The information gained from the screenings and interventions are critical to the development of more intensive interventions and/or formal assessments. Mrs. Holuk attributes her success to the guidance she has received from her colleagues and friends who promote professional development through networking with various organizations that are supportive of the educational system. The most gratifying aspect of her career is introducing various avenues and resources for future professional development that would improve services for educating children in schools.
Mrs. Holuk received a Master's degree in School Psychology, with a minor in education, in 1990 from the University of North Texas, Denton and a Bachelor's degree in psychology, with a minor in business administration, in 1981 from the University of North Texas. She holds board certification in School Crisis Response from the National Center for Crisis Management and is a certified School Psychologist in the State of Washington. She is a member of the Washington State Association of School Psychologists, the National Association of School Psychologists, and the National Center for Crisis Management. In the near future, Mrs. Holuk would like to continue as a School Psychologist and continue her education in both her profession and the ministry. She also intends to continue developing her skills as a landscape photographer.
