Margaret Anne Oettinger Honored by Leading Professional Organization

Margaret Anne Oettinger recognized for a lifetime of service to education

    WARMINSTER, PA, May 18, 2010 /Children and Youth PR News/ --Margaret Anne Oettinger, former school Librarian, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in educational services.

Prior to her retirement, Margaret Anne Oettinger dedicated 34 years of her life to library science and educational services. Initially inspired by her love for education to become involved in summer recreation programs, she taught music and worked in libraries, where she gained extensive pertinent experience early on in her career. In 1964, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in music education at The Catholic University of America and later attended St. John's University, where she earned a master of library science in 1971.

Ms. Oettinger served as a music teacher for five years before transferring into librarianship following her graduation. During her early years as a librarian, she rendered technical services, instructed students, advised faculty and maintained the library at an elementary school. She also worked with a school district, taking on added responsibility as she supervised the consolidation of the collections of two elementary schools into one and later supervised the retrospective conversion of two high school library collections when the district purchased a library management system. Her resume boasts positions with Three Village School District, Smithtown Special Library District, Middle Country Central School District. Ms. Oettinger took part in a People to People's Inc. delegation of librarians selected to travel to China. She retired in 1998 and has since moved to Pennsylvania.

Ms. Oettinger is a former President of the Port Jefferson Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and former Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Central Islip-Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance were she also served as an EMT-CC. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her dog, listening to music and cooking. Moving forward, Ms. Oettinger will seek to continue consulting. She is an active member of her community, maintaining affiliation with the American Library Association, the Young Adult Library Services Association, the Association for Library Service to Children and American Association of University Women.
