FOSTER CITY, CA, May 12, 2011 /Children and Youth PR News/ -- NAAFA is pleased to announce an addition to its Advisory Board, Lily O'Hara, MPH, Section Head of Health Promotion at the Health Authority of Abu Dhabu, United Arab Emirates and Adjunct Lecturer at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia. NAAFA's Advisory Board is a prestigious group, comprised of leaders in the areas of Science, Law, Psychology and Fat Studies from across the country. "It is part of NAAFA's strategic plan to continue to broaden its efforts beyond the borders. We have members, supporters and colleagues across the globe advocating for the rights of fat people", states NAAFA's Board Chair Jason Docherty, a Canadian citizen.
Lily is a doctoral candidate with a research focus on the evaluation of consistencies and inconsistencies between values and principles of modern health promotion and two health paradigms -Weight centered Health and Health at Every Size (HAES). She has written a number of research papers and has been published in peer reviewed journals on topics ranging from Body Image and Eating Disorders to the War on Obesity to community based approaches to public health. One of her most recent research projects yielded the "Everybody in Schools HAES Toolkit", a comprehensive resource and curriculum development tool based on the HAES principles. NAAFA is proud to offer this resource on its website: http://www.naafaonline.com/dev2/education/haestool/EVERYBODY%20in%20Schools2.pdf
"Lily is not only a brilliant scientist, she is an incredibly passionate advocate, health promotion practitioner and a longtime supporter of NAAFA. She was the 2009 recipient of NAAFA's International Size Acceptance Trailblazer Award and a workshop presenter at NAAFA's first International HAES Summit in 2010. We are thrilled to have her as an advisor and friend to NAAFA," states Lisa Tealer, NAAFA's Director of Programs and Board Member.
Founded in 1969, NAAFA is a non-profit civil rights organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for fat people. NAAFA works to eliminate discrimination based on body size and provide fat people with the tools for self-empowerment through public education, advocacy, and member support.
