Eyewear company changes the view for thousands in rural Panama

The world's largest eyewear store has improved the vision for thousands of villagers in rural Panama during a recent (May 17th, 2011) mission to donate eyeglasses as part of the company's new charitable initiative, the Change the View Project.

VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA, June 02, 2011 /Children and Youth PR News/ -- The world's largest eyewear store has improved the vision for thousands of villagers in rural Panama during a recent (May 17th, 2011) mission to donate eyeglasses as part of the company's new charitable initiative, the Change the View Project.

CoastalContacts.com launched its Change the View Project in March 2011 to provide eyeglasses to people around the world who suffer from visual impairment and who are unable to obtain eyeglasses by their own means.

A party of five 'Change the View' representatives travelled more than 6,000 km deep into the rural Penonome region of Panamá, to administer up to 4,500 pairs of prescription eyeglasses, reading eyeglasses and UV protecting sunglasses to local school children, adults and seniors.

Roger Hardy, Founder and CEO of CoastalContacts.com, said:

"We have developed relationships with a variety of community groups around the world who want to contribute to and benefit from the Change the View Project. One of these relationships brought us to rural Panama, where thousands of villagers had never been able to see properly. All that was required to improve their vision and their daily lives was access to a simple pair of prescription eyeglasses or reading glasses.

"We were blown away by the response and the personal stories of some of the Panamanian people. One 83 year old lady had never worn a pair of eyeglasses before and had never learned to read because her vision was so poor. She had lived her entire life without seeing the faces of her friends and family and the leaves on the surrounding trees clearly until she received glasses from us. This lady's story was particularly emotional for everyone involved and really brought home why we are doing this as a company. The Change the View Project will help us and our customers to help children and adults around the world not only improve their vision but dramatically change their lives."

For every pair of exclusive designer brand frames purchased by customers of CoastalContacts.com the company will donate a pair of eyeglasses to someone in need around the world. The company aims to donate more than two million pairs of eyeglasses to those in need by the year 2020.

The Change the View Project is seeking partner organizations with health aid missions around the world to distribute eyeglasses internationally. It is also seeking distribution partners in North America.
