Free Day Program for Massachusetts Children and Teens Who Have Lost a Parent or Sibling to Suicide

Comfort Zone Camp provides free one day camp for Massachusetts children and teens who have experienced a loss in their family.

WINCHESTER, MA, June 03, 2011 /Children and Youth PR News/ -- Comfort Zone Camp is honored to partner with the Samaritans of Boston and the Department of Public Health and Suicide Prevention to provide a free one day camp for Massachusetts children and teens who have experienced the loss of a parent, sibling or primary caregiver to suicide. Camp attendees will be matched with a mentor, participate in confidence building programs, and be placed in age-based support groups that break the emotional isolation grief often brings. Parents and guardians are invited to participate in facilitated discussions about their challenges and receive support separate from the children's activities.

"At camp we see what challenges kids face after the death of a loved one and how they are trying to overcome those challenges. We want to equip them with healthy coping skills to replace or prevent unhealthy behaviors like substance abuse, eating disorders and suicidal thoughts, that often result from unaddressed grief," stated Pete Shrock, Comfort Zone Camp's National Program Director.

The camp will be held in Beverly, MA on June 25, 2011 and is open to children and teens between 7-17 years old that have lost a parent, guardian or sibling to suicide, and are a Massachusetts resident. There is no fee for attending camp, however, registration is required by June 6, 2011. Volunteers are also needed to support this one-day camp. Volunteer training will be held in Waltham, MA on June 4, 2011. To learn more about registering a young person for camp or volunteer opportunities, visit www.comfortzonecamp.org _http://www.comfortzonecamp.org_ , or contact Sue Oppici at (781) 756-4840.
