Kidnapping: Next New Diet Fad!
NAAFA challenges Dr. Ludwig and his Harvard colleagues to take a HAES (Health at Every Size) approach rather than kidnap two million children from their parents.
FOSTER CITY, CA, July 20, 2011 /Children and Youth PR News/ -- Harvard Scientist, Dr. David Ludwig and his colleagues have come up with a new way of dealing with our nation's Fat children... recommending state sponsored kidnapping ...take fat children away from their parents and families ...effectively stripping away their civil rights in the hope they will lose weight!
Dr. Ludwig should look more closely at history before making recommendations that have not worked in the past! Anamarie Regino and her family are one such case and know the horrors of such an action. Over a decade ago, Anamarie Regino, three years old at the time was removed from her parents' custody and placed in foster care for two months, only to be returned after no improvement occurred. Anamarie was later diagnosed as having a genetic predisposition.
According to a recent JAMA article, approximately two million children fall into the governmental intervention category. Two million children put into foster care. Two million families ripped apart! Irreparable mental and emotional damage done to an entire portion of the American population!
NAAFA challenges Dr. Ludwig and his colleagues at Harvard to take a HAES (Health at Every Size) approach instead of suggesting such preposterous action that has no track record of success. Focus on the positive not on the destructive! Children are the future of our nation, build them up, do not tear them down!
The NAAFA Child Advocacy Toolkit is a resource for people involved in the lives of children of size. It is intended to help educate and inform all segments of society with regard to the effects of weight discrimination on children and provides references and tools to combat these effects using a HAES (Health At Every Size) approach. A link to an electronic version of this premier toolkit is available on the front page of the NAAFA website at www.naafa.org
Founded in 1969, NAAFA is a non-profit civil rights organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for fat people. NAAFA works to eliminate discrimination based on body size and provide fat people with the tools for self-empowerment through public education, advocacy, and member support.
