Phyllis Dragonas' Multilingual Capacity Culminates Multifaceted Success
Dr. Dragonas has spent nearly five decades as a foreign language educator and mentor
BEVERLY, MA, Junary 04, 2011 /Children and Youth PR News/ -- Phyllis J. Dragonas, Ph.D., Deputy Superintendent for Melrose Public Schools Emerita, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in foreign languages and school administration.
Throughout her 47-year tenure as an educator, Dr. Dragonas has developed proficiency in the areas of linguistics, foreign language education, romance languages. Her fervent self-motivation, school administration, leadership, knowledge and experience has led to an expert level of efficiency in her day-to-day functions of conducting the English language learning program, planning curriculum and instruction, professional development, implementing international exchange programs, and handling personnel and public relations. Upon her own accord, Dr. Dragonas established a unique German American Partnership Program in Melrose, which received national acclaim and was also recognized in The New York Times. In addition, she developed and nurtured an outstanding foreign language program for grades five through 12, which is recognized nationally.
Dr. Dragonas earned a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in 1971, after having already attained a Master of Arts in French Language and Literature from the Middlebury Graduate School at the Sorbonne in Paris. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Romance Languages and Literatures from Boston University, from which she later attained a Master of Education degree in Administration. Her contributions to the educational community have not gone without formal recognition. She was honored with the title Chevalier in the Order of the Palmes Academiques from the French Ministry of Education. She is a Fulbright Scholar, and a French and German Government award recipient. Most recently she has received the Distinguished Service Award for exceptional and meritorious service to the foreign language profession in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from the Massachusetts Foreign Language Association.
An expert in her field, Dr. Dragonas remains knowledgeable of her industry; and continues to be active with the Massachusetts Foreign Language Association, the American Association of Teachers of French, the American Association of Teachers of German, the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, the National Council for Languages and International Studies, and the Massachusetts Global Education Advisory Council, along with other civic affiliations. She has published a book and several articles in professional journals, and has lectured at professional conferences in the United States and abroad.
