GUELPH, ON, CANADA, February 24, 2011 /Stanford Who's Who/ -- Dr. Jim Garrow has been accepted among the prestigious ranks of Stanford Who's Who as a result of his phenomenal philanthropic efforts. As Founder and Executive Director of the Bethune Institute, Dr. Garrow has routinely exhibited the passion, vision and dedication necessary to be considered among the best.
The Bethune Institute is a philanthropic organization dedicated to the work of Dr. Norman Bethune, who blazed a trail of service and self-sacrifice that stands today as meritorious and worthy of praise. Dr. Bethune was a Canadian physician and medical innovator who is well known and respected in China due to his performance of emergency battlefield surgical operations on war casualties and establishment of training for doctors, nurses and orderlies.
The Bethune Institute is determined that the memory of this great servant of the people will live on in good deeds done for the people of China. This means that they will teach people how to teach English in their TESOL program, provide used books to poor areas of China through their Books for China program and save the lives of female babies through their Pink Pagoda campaign. They also try to find worthy students who will carry on in the tradition of Norman Bethune and become Physicians in China through the Dr. Norman Bethune Memorial Medical Scholarship.
During his collegiate career, Dr. Garrow attended York University, the University of Toronto, Liberty University, Columbia University, and the University of Edinburgh. He is a member of the C.D. Howe Institute, Crisis Magazine Board, and Founder of the Pink Pagoda philanthropic group. Dr. Garrow performs as a guest lecturer at numerous universities. He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 and the Order of Canada in 2010.
